PHP10-B development projects up in Antique this 2017
By Annabel J. Petinglay

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique, March 3 (PNA) -- The province of Antique will be a recipient of some Php10 billion worth of development projects that will be implemented through various government agencies this year.

Senator Loren Legarda, whose roots came from Antique, revealed the good news during the dialogue between heads of national government offices and local officials of Antique, Friday. She claimed that she was inspired by what Senator Franklin M. Drilon has done for Iloilo City that she also would like to bring in developmental projects to Antique.

Legarda, who chairs the Senate Committee on Finance, said that the PHP10 billion is contained in the 2017 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office 6 was allotted the biggest budget of PHP3.049 billion for 126 projects, which include roads and bridges. School projects will be implemented in partnership with the Department of Education (DepED).

The lady senator also approved the additional PHP2.25 billion that was requested by DPWH Undersecretary Rafael Yabut and Assistant Secretary for the Visayas Roberto Bernardo who joined the meeting. The fund is necessary to finish the projects that are currently being implemented in Antique.

Among the projects that are already implemented or are yet to be implemented this 2017 are the San Jose Boulevard, Panay East West Road, Barangay Comon-San Pedro Coastal road, and Solong Bridge.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through its Assistant Secretary Hope Hervilla revealed that it has PHP 1 billion fund allotted for Antique. The money will be utilized in Sustainable Livelihood Program, Supplemental Feeding Program, and social pension for qualified senior citizens.

Department of Agriculture (DA) Assistant Secretary for the Visayas Hansel Didulo said they have various projects for Antique like fiber glass boats for the coastal municipalities aside from the free irrigation for farmers.

Moreover, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Deputy-Director General Rebecca Calzado, Department of Health (DOH) Assistant Secretary Bernardita Flores, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Director Rowen Gelonga also made their respective presentations of projects and programs that are part of the PHP10 billion for Antique.

Also present during the dialogue were DepEd Assistant Regional Director Victor G. De Gracia, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Assistant Regional Director Jessie Vego and National Nutrition Council (NNC) Manager Nona Tad-y.

Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao expressed gratitude to Legarda and officials of different government agencies for coming to Antique to inform Antiquenos about their programs and projects.

She said that as a leader of the province, she desires Antique “to have a place in the sand” and not just for the Antiquenos to be known as sacadas or sugar migrants, housemaids, and backward people.

Likewise, Legarda turned over the PHP10 million fund that will be utilized in the province’s ongoing preparations for the 2017 Palarong Pambansa.

The check that came from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) was received by Cadiao.

Earlier, the Department of Education (DepEd) downloaded PHP30 million for the rehabilitation of schools that will be used as billeting for some 15,000 athletes and officials who will participate in the national sports event on April 23-29.

The provincial government also released PHP5 million for the repair of comfort rooms and establishment of kitchens at the billeting schools. (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
