Official cites successful dry run of San Jose’s new traffic ordinance
SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique, Jan. 11 (PNA) -- The first day of the implementation of the amended traffic ordinance of San Jose de Buenavista, capital town of Antique province, has successfully cleared national highways of illegally parked vehicles.
San Jose de Buenavista Senior Municipal Councilor Dante Beriong said that there was no more traffic congestion since early Wednesday morning and vehicles that used to park in front of establishments were no longer there.
â€Everyone seemed to be cooperating…it’s very encouraging sign,†he said.
The dry run of the new Municipal Ordinance Number 03-2016 that amended Municipal Ordinance Number 2015-01 started today as part of the preparations for this province’s hosting of the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet on February 5-11 and the Palarong Pambansa this coming April.
Last week San Jose de Buenavista Mayor Elmer Untaran said that he wanted to solve the traffic jam in anticipation of the influx of visitors and athletes during the two big sports events. “I don’t want those who would be coming here complain about our traffic and the lack of orderliness among vehicles,†he said.
Forty-three traffic enforcers are deployed on the highways to ensure 24-hour adherence to the ordinance, particularly by the around 4,000 tricycles plying the route. (PNA)
