NOCCI lauds PPA for NIR request on proposed Bacong, Negros Oriental port facility
DUMAGUETE CITY, Dec. 20 (PNA) -- The multi-awarded Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCI) lauded and commended the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA)-Dumaguete Port Management Office (PMO) headed by Port Manager Atty. Sarah Mijares for its swift and immediate action on the request of the Negros Island Regional Development Council (NI-RDC) for the conduct of a preliminary feasibility study on the proposed seaport in Bacong, Negros Oriental.
The proposed seaport aims to address the growing volume of domestic and international cargoes in the province of Negros Oriental.
It is also expected to boost employment in the municipality and other areas outside of Bacong.
NOCCI president Edward Du, in a statement Tuesday, thanked the PPA officials for supporting NOCCI's advocacy for a new seaport in the municipality of Bacong given its strategic location and as part of the booming Metro Dumaguete economic growth corridor.
The proposed Bacong seaport will also complement the proposed immediate relocation of the Sibulan airport to Bacong, Du said.
NOCCI is also pushing for the immediate endorsement of the Bacong airport feasibility study to NEDA for possible funding in 2018 by the national government.
“These two major infrastructure projects when completed will surely boost trade, investments & tourism in Negros Orientalâ€, Du added.
Du was recently elected as Chairman of the Negros Island Economic Development Committee and is also the incumbent co-chair of the Negros Oriental Provincial MSMED Council.
NOCCI recently won the 2016 Most Outstanding Chamber of Commerce Award in Asia and Pacific in Taipeh, Taiwan and will vie for the 2017 World Chamber Award in Sydney, Australia.
Just recently, the Negros Island regional development council (RDC) passed Resolution No. 20, series of 2016, requesting the PPA to conduct a feasibility study on the proposed seaport in Bacong. (PNA)
