Acting on reports reaching his office, Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has recommended Monday for the termination of four traffic auxiliaries after they were caught "selling candies" to jeepney drivers while on-duty.
Reports have reached the office of the city mayor saying that some traffic aides are forcing drivers to buy their candies for P5.00 each.
“It is injustice. It is a grave offense to harass our driversâ€, Mabilog lamented.
Mabilog said this kind of modus operandi among traffic aides are already a citywide problem.
Termination is banned during election period, but Mabilog said he has already sent a communication to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) asking to grant his request for the termination of these traffic aides.
The city government has hired around 200 traffic auxiliaries to help decongest the traffic problem in this city, but some of them have been reported to be engaged in "kotong" activities.
Mabilog emphasized that he has no business on the private lives of these traffic auxiliaries after their “off hours†but they should be obliged to use the government time for their jobs while on-duty.
“I strictly emphasized that there should be no sideline while on duty so that they could focus on their jobsâ€, he stressed.
Aside from the four, several traffic aides are also being monitored due to alleged illegal sidelines.
Earlier, Mabilog has warned traffic aides to love their work or be sacked if they continue engaging in illegal activities. (PNA)
