Iloilo Liga ng mga Barangay to push for total ban of firecrackers

ILOILO CITY, Jan. 3 (PNA) -- The Liga ng mga Barangay (LMB) in Iloilo is planning to push for a total ban on the use of firecrackers.

LMB president Pablito Gemarino, in an interview on Tuesday, said that he will convene all village chiefs and the president of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) in the province to consult their sentiments with regard to the total ban.

“I know that most of our barangay captains are supportive of this move,” he said.

Gemarino pointed out that there is a significant decrease in the number of the firecracker-related injuries in the province as a result of the advocacies of concerned government agencies such as the Department of Health (DOH) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to refrain from using firecrackers.

Gemarino said that he has been supportive to the move of the current administration for the total of ban of firecrackers. He said there is a big advantage if people will no longer use firecrackers, especially during Christmas season and New Year’s Eve.

He said that a resolution will be filed before the end of the year.

Records from the Provincial Health Office (PHO)
SHOWED THAT THERE ARE 27 FIRECRACKER-RELATED INJURIES IN THE PROVINCE FROM DECEMBER 22, 2016 UNTIL JANUARY 3 OF THIS YEAR. THE DATA IS LOWER THAN THE 97 CASES ON THE SAME PERIOD OF LAST YEAR.

ALL VICTIMS ARE MALES, AGE 15 YEARS OLD AND BELOW AND MOSTLY ARE ACTIVE. THREE OF THE 26 VICTIMS ARE STILL ADMITTED WHILE THE REST ARE ALREADY SENT HOME.

PHO MONITORING ON THE CASES OF FIRECRACKER INJURIES IN THE PROVINCE WILL END ON JANUARY 5. LAP/PGL/CBFERRER/CBF

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
