Ilocos Norte lady cops train girls on basic self-defense

LAOAG CITY, March 3 (PNA) -- Teenage girls in Grades 10 and 11 from various schools in Ilocos Norte province are being prepared for a basic training course on self-defense, courtesy of lady cops based at the Camp Valentin S. Juan here.

On Monday and Tuesday, some 100 girls per batch will be clustered in every training site to learn the tactics of safeguarding oneself against sexual harassment or rape.

Police records on violence against women and children show an increase in rape victims in the province, most of them teenage girls.

As part of the intensified campaign to protect the rights of women and girls, the Ilocos Norte Police's Women Division, in cooperation with the provincial government's Gender and Development Office, will spearhead an information caravan and basic training on self-defense as a way of moving forward into the millennium and ending such barbaric practices.

On Monday (March 6), teenage girls from the towns of Bacarra, Piddig and Vintar will convene at the Vintar auditorium at 1 p.m. for the first batch of training.

The following day, female students from the secondary schools of Currimao, Pinili, and Badoc will gather at the Badoc auditorium for the same training.

The basic self-defense training by lady police officers of the Ilocos Norte Police has become an annual activity benefiting teenage girls in the province. It is held in celebration of National Women’s Month this March.(PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
