Female high school students in Aurora train on basic self defenseBALER, Aurora, March 9 (PNA)-- A basic training on
self defense for female high school students is being conducted here in line with celebration of Women’s Month.
The two-day activity was facilitated by the 56th Infantry “Tatag†Battalion, Philippine Army and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office.
Army Captain Reynaldo Aragones, Civil Military Operation (CMO) chief of “Tatag†Battalion said they are in full support to the activity for young women learning how to defend themselves.
“Violence is, unfortunately, a fact of life. We have to counter an immediate threat of violence and we have to protect our women by providing them safe and healthful tips to defend themselves in the schools and working places, among others,†Aragones said.
Aragones said the two-day activity likewise aims to raise awareness and boost knowledge on the basic strategies on protecting oneself in the midst of unavoidable circumstances.
Social worker Camay Joy Dadero said taking into account that women’s maternal function is vital for the participants to know their rights and how to defend themselves against violence.
She cited the Magna Carta for Women or the Republic Act of 9710 that provides the necessary mechanisms to enforce and guarantee the realization of women’s rights as well as adopt and undertake steps to include temporary special measures which encompass a wide variety of legislative, executive, administrative and other regulatory instruments, policies and practices aimed at accelerating the equal participation of women in the political, economic, social, cultural, civil or any other field as stated in the law.
She also cited the importance of gender equality.
The participants came from the different institutions namely - Angelcare Science of Academy, Aurora National Science High School, Baler National High School, Puangi National High School, Dipaculao, National High School, Maria Aurora National High School, Rodrigo P. Palmero Memorial National High School, Ditumabo National High School, Aurora National High School and Bayanihan National High School here in Central Aurora. (PNA) (PNA)
