The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Friday said 16 establishments and 12 individuals have qualified for the final judging of the prestigious Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan (GKK) of the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) on Sept. 16.

The OSHC is an attached agency of the DOLE.

The GKK is a national award given every two years in recognition of the outstanding achievements and best practices of establishments and individuals for safety and health.

A component of the Zero Accident Program, one of the flagship programs of DOLE, spearheaded by the OSHC, the GKK was established to encourage institutions and companies to implement safety, health and environment programs to achieve productivity and zero accident in the workplace and to recognize outstanding institutions or individuals who have implemented successful safety and health programs or ideas.

DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz said that the GKK complements President Benigno S. Aquino III’s 22-point labor and employment agenda, particularly about the call for the DOLE to promote the constitutional rights of workers, which include their right to safety and health in the workplace to ensure their productivity and competitiveness.

“I call on employers, including those of small and medium enterprises, to ensure the health and safety of their workers as this would benefit them in terms of preventing workplace accidents and diseases that would certainly hamper business operations and profits,” Baldoz said in connection to the awards.

OSHC officials, labor unions, employers, the academe, non government organizations (NGO) and other stakeholders deliberated and judged on the entries to the Gawad, said OSHC executive director officer-in-charge Dr. Teresita Cocueco.

Cocueco also said that only the “best of the best” survived the validation process for winners in the individual and establishment categories.

She said the GKK contestants were judged on their capabilities to provide safety control and emergency preparedness, industrial hygiene, occupational health program, environmental protection and community relations, social accountability, capacity building on occupational safety and health (OSH), OSH-MS international safety rating system, and outcome of programs.

The winners for both the individual and establishment categories — Presidential Award, Labor Secretary’s Award, and Special Recognition — will be handed specially-crafted trophies, fashioned by the internationally-acclaimed and multi-awarded artist Ramon Orlina.

A special award will also be given to an entry from the informal sector.

The GKK winners will be announced during the awarding ceremony to be held at the OSHC in Quezon City on Oct. 14. It will be followed by the 12th National Safety and Health Congress, a convention of occupational safety and health practitioners who will share research papers, posters, photos, documentary films and OSH products. John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
