More than 5,000 people joined a
fun run against illegal drugs here on Friday.
Senior Supt. Roberto Aliggayu said some 2,000 of the participants came from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Army (PA), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and other uniformed personnel while the rest were civilians.
Co-organized by the provincial government of Nueva Ecija and the PNP, the activity called "Takbo Laban sa Droga" started 5:30 a.m. at the Benigno Aquino Freedom Park here.
Governor Aurelio Umali and Vice Governor Jose Gay Padiernos were among the finishers at the five-kilometer category while Aliggayu finished the 10-kilometer event.
"This activity aims to rouse awareness of Novo Ecijanos on the evils of drugs as your police experts continue to implement the law against anyone involved in illegal drugs operation," Aliggayu said.
The provincial police chief could not cite figures but said problems on illegal drugs is one of the top priorities of his command.
"This is about supply reduction and demand reduction," he said. (PNA)
