Former Aklan congressman Quimpo dies of cancer
KALIBO, Aklan, Dec. 14 (PNA) -- Former Aklan Congressman Atty. Allen S. Quimpo died of cancer in a hospital in Manila at around 2 am early morning of Wednesday.
This was announced over the radio by his Dan Salas who served as his spokesman.
As the news of his passing spread, message of condolences poured over the social media.
Already known to many, Quimpo was an environmentalist as he founded the Kalibo Bakhawan Eco-Park. The said park is now one of the tourism destinations of Kalibo and has received several awards from the United Nations (UN).
Quimpo during his term as congressman for nine consecutive years in the 1990's authored the passage of the Aklan State University. The university formerly known as Aklan State College for Agriculture is considered excellent in agriculture in Western Visayas.
Quimpo also founded the local Tibyog Party which is considered a major political party in the province to this day. He also served as chief executive of Kalibo for several years.(PNA)
