Fire prevention policy should focus on ‘education’MISAMIS ORIENTAL, March 2 (PNA) -- Nothing is far greater than educating the people on the importance of fire prevention, Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano said Thursday.
Emano made the statement while expressing full support for the activities of the Bureau of Fire Prevention (BFP) as the March “Fire Prevention Month†kicked off Wednesday.
He said all sectors of the community must be educated so they would appreciate the importance of fire prevention in protecting life and limb.
“While the discovery of fire is considered a very important milestone in human civilization, it cannot be denied that fire too has become a menace and become a very serious threat to our continuing progress,†the governor said.
Everyone in society, he said, must fight ignorance and promote awareness of the proper control of fire rather than the fire controlling us.
“I hope that the celebration of Fire Prevention Month this year would be successful while reminding the BFP that awareness and adopting a proactive approach in the prevention of fire through education should be given emphasis,†Emano said.
During the launch of Fire Prevention Month, Emano also ordered the provincial disaster risk reduction and management office to closely coordinate with the BFP.
He said that closer coordination with the BFP would promote proactive activities in preventing disastrous fire incidents and identifying proper sites for the establishment of more fire stations in towns and villages. (PNA)
