Former Masbate 3rd district representative shot to death

MASBATE CITY (29 June 2005) -— Sketchy reports from Metro Manila said a former congressman of Masbate was shot and killed by still unidentified men late Sunday night in Caloocan City.
Police had identified the fatality as Fausto L. Seachon, Jr., a resident of GSIS Village in Sitio Talipapa, Barangay 164 in Caloocan City, DZMM reported on Monday.
Witnesses said Seachon was playing mahjong with two friends when three gunmen approached and opened fire at him around 11 p.m., Sunday.
Sunday night’s shooting incident was the second attempt on his life.
During the election campaign last year, gunmen ambushed his vehicle while heading to a rally in Cawayan town but he survived.
Seachon had sought the Masbate gubernatorial post in last year’s elections, and lost to his chief political rival Antonio T. Kho.
Seachon was the mayor of Pio V. Corpuz town in Masbate’s third district from 1988. In 1995, he won the congressional seat for the province’s third district. Barred by law from seeking a fourth term in Congress, he ran for governor last year but lost.
Seachon, 64, left behind two daughters and a son who is the mayor of Esperanza town, of Masbate mainland.
The former congressman was reportedly girding for the gubernatorial fight in 2007. (PIA Masbate)
