Senate President Manuel Villar Jr. on Wednesday announced that detained overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Trinidad and Tobago are expected to arrive Wednesday afternoon in the country.
Sen. Villar said in a statement he already received information from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) that the 23 OFWs are expected to arrived in Mactan International Airport in Cebu City around 4:05 afternoon on board flight QR-464.
Villar added Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia shouldered the airfares of the 23 OFWs.
The senate president added the 23 OFWs left their employer in Tobago for breach of contract and tried to transfer to other employer in Trinidad but upon arrival in Trinidad, they were detained by immigration authorities for allegedly holding fake travel documents based on a report by their previous employer in Tobago.
The relatives of these OFWs led by Marisol Fortuna seek Villar’s assistance for the repatriation of detained OFW’s in Trinidad.
Villar immediately coordinated with the DFA and the Philippine Honorary Consul in Trinidad and Tobago to facilitate the prompt repatriation of the detained
Filipino workers. - PNA
