Case of Davao Radio Broadcaster
« on: August 20, 2010, 11:16:15 AM »
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has recommended no bail for the policeman implicated in the murder of Mati City-based broadcaster Jessie Camangyan last June 14.

Due to the gravity of the offense, Assistant State Prosecutor Nestor Lazaro recommended that no bail be granted to PO1 Dennis Lumikid, previously assigned at Manay Police Station in Manay, Davao Oriental.

The murder case against Lumikid was filed before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Mati City and pending for raffling.

Lumikid is presently under camp restriction at the PNP Provincial Police Office in Davao Oriental.

Limikid’s co-accused Barangay Captain Romeo Antoling of Barangay Old Macopa, Manay, Davao Oriental was dropped from the charges for insufficiency of evidence.

Lazaro directed the police to conduct further investigation on the case to determine the identity of Lumikid’s companion.

Camangyan, a broadcaster of Sunrise FM in Mati City, Davao Oriental, who kept on lambasting local officials allegedly involved in illegal logging operations, was gunned down while emceeing an amateur singing contest at Barangay Old Macopa, Manay, Davao Oriental.

It was Antoling who invited Camangyan to be the host of the singing contest during that time.

Antoling was implicated in the killing after he failed to extend assistance to Camangyan shortly after he was shot.

But Lazaro ruled that Antoling’s act was insufficient to hold him for trial for the murder of Camangyan.

Lumikid was positively identified by Camangyan’s live-in partner Ruth Matinong as the man bringing a firearm and left from where the broadcaster was shot.

Lumikid, on the other hand, claimed in his counter-affidavit that he was not at the crime scene when the incident happened and it was impossible for him to be at the place where Camangyan was killed.

He even presented affidavits of witnesses supporting his claim that he was at Barangay Guza, Manay, Davao Oriental which is eight kilometers away from Barangay Old Macopa where Camangyan was killed. - PNA

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
