Five people luckily escaped death after the car they were riding in collided with a military vehicle shortly before midnight Friday along the south national highway in
Dumaguete City.
Initial investigation showed the car was traveling back to Dumaguete while the truck was on the opposite lane heading south when the former slammed into the left front portion of the M-35 (6x6) truck of the 79th Infantry Battalion based in Siaton town.
The car was severely damaged and almost a total wreck, , but the driver and the other passengers, except for one passenger who was taken to the hospital for some minor injuries, were all safe.
None of the soldiers in the truck were injured, but the vehicle incurred damage on the front portion.
The soldiers claimed the car was racing so fast and that some of the passengers seemed intoxicated.
The military truck was on its way to Siaton after having transported Scout Rangers to San Jose town, about 30 minutes drive north of this capital city.
Lt. Col. Pio Diñoso III, 79th IB commander, said that the car owner has assured to pay for the repair of the military truck.
The driver told this reporter they were returning to Dumaguete after attending the fiesta celebration in Dauin town.
He said they were about to cross to the other lane to refill at a gasoline station when the car hit the military truck instead. (PNA) - RMA/JFP
