My late uncle Teodoro Ferniz (my father's brother) was one of the few Boy Scouts who helped Mc Arthur land in Leyte. It was during a dark night when Mc Arthur fulfilled his promise as per his famous words "I Shall Return". He could not locate the safe shore for landing. My uncle's troop recieved a morse code message from Mc Arthurs ship that night, so they built a big bon fire at the beach that helped Mc Arthur's ship locate the safe shore for landing. Without the 14 of them and thier initiative, Mc Arthur's promise would have been in vain.
However, when my uncle died last 2005, he had a solemn funeral exclusive only to those who knew his greatness.
