Radio broadcaster posts bail on 2 libel cases filed by Misamis Oriental solon
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Jan. 27 (PNA) -- A radio broadcaster has posted bail on the libel cases filed against him by a lawmaker, the police said Friday.
The regional trial court earlier ordered the arrest of Jonas Bustamante, a broadcaster here against whom two libel cases were filed by Rep. Pedro Unabia of the First District of Misamis Oriental.
Bustamante surrendered to Police Supt. Surki Sereñas, the police regional spokesperson, in Camp Alagar. He then posted a bail bond of PHP 20,000 for the twin libel cases to gain temporary liberty.
Sereñas said that Bustamante was subsequently turned-over to the court after undergoing the documentation process at the Medina Police Station in Misamis Oriental.
In his affidavit submitted to the RTC Branch 26 here, Rep. Unabia said that he was attacked “below the belt†in the radio program hosted by Bustamante.
Unabia did not elaborate, but said that Bustamante was the first radio broadcaster that he had filed a libel case against, which he would seriously pursue. (PNA)
