Aussie gov’t builds houses for Zambo-siege displaced families
By Teofilo P. Garcia Jr.

ZAMBOANGA CITY, March 3 (PNA)-- Forty-five siege-affected families housed at the Tulungatung transitory site have returned to their permanent homes courtesy of the Australian government and other implementing agencies under the Zamboanga Recovery Project (ZRP).

Australian Embassy Deputy Head of Mission Mat Kimberley and Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar led the handover of the permanent houses to 45 “untagged” families in Barangay Tulungatung, this city, on Thursday.

Officials of the Community and Family Services International (CFSI), Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Archdiocese of Zamboanga joined the two officials in the turnover of the permanent shelters.

A Day Care center with water, sanitation and hygiene facility and playground that can accommodate 30 children per class session put up at the resettlement site, was also turned over.

“Australia is committed to support the continuing recovery of this city under the Zamboanga Recovery Project,” Kimberly said.

“I am honored to meet some of the families supported by the project and to be among the first to visit their new permanent homes,” Kimberly stressed.

Salazar thanked the Australian government, CFSI, CRS and Archdiocese of Zamboanga for coming in to the aid of the local government and the internally displaced persons.

Salazar urged the beneficiaries to take good care of the permanent dwellings and help Zamboanga build back better.

The beneficiaries of the housing projects are among the more than 120,000 people displaced in the 21-day September 2013 siege.

The 45 homes turned over in Barangay Tulungatung came less than a month after 35 houses were also turned over to untagged families in Barangay San Roque under the ZRP where 15 other families received support from Australia to build permanent houses on their own land. (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
