Army troopers clashed with a 30-man armed group of the New People’s Army in a forested area between the borders of Nueva Ecija and Aurora, a belated Army news bulletin reported here on Wednesday.
This is the second report of the presence of insurgents since December 6 where a Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) detachment in Lupao, Nueva Ecija, was reportedly fired at by a band of NPA rebels of undetermined number.
The communist terrorists were reportedly encamped in a forested area between Barangay Labi, Bongabon and Barangay Villa in Maria Aurora, Aurora when surprised by troopers of the 48th Infantry Brigade, attached with the Army’s 7th Infantry (“Kaugnayâ€) Division based in Fort Magsaysay, Palayan City.
Troopers from Charlie Company of the 48th IB, under Lt. Bocala engaged the NPA guerrillas in an intense firefight that lasted about 30 minutes, starting around 12:45 a.m. on Monday.
There were no reports of casualties on the government side, while trails of blood had marked the escape route taken by the red rebels, the army reported. - pna
