« on: October 11, 2008, 05:03:41 PM »
The Police Regional Office 12 is now equipped with bomb detection paraphernalia considered as a vital tool in the government’s fight against terrorism in Central Mindanao.

Police Supt. Franklin Alvero, chief, regional explosive ordnance division, PRO 12 said the equipment and paraphernalia are very necessary in the drive in the preservation of law and order and anti terrorism efforts of the government in the region.

Alvero disclosed these tools are now in the EOD offices of the newly inaugurated building of the Regional Bomb Squad Unit and General Santos City Police Office Bomb Squad Unit at Camp Fermin Lira, General Santos City.

Alvero revealed that the paraphernalia was donated by the United States Embassy in Manila represented by Mr. Jacob M. Wohlman, Regional Security Officer of the Diplomatic Service Office.

The donation, according to Alvero, comprised of bomb suit kit, detector, x-ray machine and other post blast investigation tools amounting to more than P1 million. - PNA

it is amusing that americans would actually donate bomb detection tools that would end up being "housed in the EOD offices of the regional bomb squad unit" of the PNP in general santos city. authorities in mindanao (PNP, AFP, as well as US marine advisers) are all aware that the MO of terrorists have always involved detonting bombs aboard buses. incidents such as these have happened in places like kidapawan, digos, koronadal, etc. obviously, the bombers get aboard these buses along certain routes and get off when the bus reaches the terminal with just a few minutes left before the bomb actually detonates. in other words, most bombings in mindanao occur aboard buses at bus stations. which makes me wonder what good a bomb detection machine can do inside a police office.
