In the recent 2008 Search for the Outstanding City Libraries in Metro Manila, the Marikina City Library was adjudged one of those exemplary in the metropolis.
In the search conducted by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), The National Library (TNL) and the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI), Marikina garnered a rating of 93 percent to notch second spot in a field of six.
Pasig Discovery Centrum and Library Learning Resource Center grabbed the top slot with a rating of 95 percent.
Quezon City ranked third with 86 percent; Manila, 80 percent; Makati, 73.5 percent; and Malabon, 68.5 percent.
The libraries were judged based on the following criteria: information resources/collections, human resources, services, programs, governance and administration, access and physical facility.
Meanwhile, Acting City Librarian Vic Jayson Cruz said the Marikina City Library had partnered with the Association of Barangay Captains to facilitate storytelling projects in 16 barangays in the city. The project was launched in Barangay Fortune in September. - PNA
