The boundary conflict between the three provinces in Central Mindanao was finally resolved after agreeing to fully implement the cadastral survey plan.
The cadastral survey plan was agreed in Koronadal City with top regional and local government unit officials (LGU’s) attending led by Central Mindanao Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Regional Executive Director Jim O. Sampulna.
Central Mindanao DENR Regional Executive Director (RED) Jim O. Sampulna organized the one-day meeting in order to once and for all settle overlapping claims of three local government units (LGUs).
The move is in line with the thrust of poverty reduction and hunger mitigation under the leadership of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Jose “Lito†L. Atienza, Jr. and in pursuance of the 10-point legacy agenda of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Sampulna also confirmed that it is “all systems go†for the implementation of the cadastral survey of the political boundaries of the three affected municipalities, namely Maitum in Sarangani Province, Lake Sebu in South Cotabato and Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat.
Funds for the survey project shall be augmented through sourcing from the DENR Central Office.
“We are here to settle if not to lessen the tension owing to the long-standing boundary conflict among three municipalities. While the DENR takes charge in the survey, the settlement of the conflict is still within the mandate of the LGUs under Republic Act No. 7160 or the Local Government Code,†Sampulna said. - PNA
