Engineers from a Korean construction company building a nickel ore processing plant in Madagascar for a Canadian mining group are in the country to interview applicants for deployment to the said island nation.

Cherry Cleary, president of Jerphi Overseas and Trading Corp., said applicants are invited to personally apply at their office this week to be able to join the first batch of workers scheduled to leave by the first week of December.

“Interviews are being held daily from 9am-6pm at Jerphi offices at Jerphi Unit 219, Aurora Plaza Bldg. 1, Arquiza or Bocobo Sts., Ermita, Manila,” she said.

A Korean construction firm has been commissioned to build a nickel and cobalt processing plant in Madagascar that will need about 1,000 Filipino workers mostly engineers and skilled personnel.

Geu Nam Construction Company based in South Korea has placed a job order with Jerphi for professionals like mechanical, piping, quality control engineers, safety officers, labor controller, foremen, welders (tig), pipe fitters, electricians, steelmen and various categories for the construction project.

Cleary said competitive salaries and benefits such as free food and accommodation, free medical services, two- year contracts and others await interested applicants.

Madagascar, an island nation in the Indian Ocean off the southern coast of Africa has started to develop its rich natural resources through oil and mining projects through the participation of international mining companies.

It is the fourth largest island in the world which has started to invest in international mining and oil companies in large deposits of nickel, cobalt and oil in that country. - PNA
