200,000 Jobs Offered but only 7,000 Were Hired?
« on: May 02, 2009, 01:56:23 PM »
Over 7,000 jobseekers found employment on the spot after their final interview with firms during the state-hosted Jobapalooza fair on Friday.

Undersecretary Luz Padilla earlier said that on-the-spot hiring was possible following the screening via DoLE’s online pre-registration launched March this year, before the conduct of Jobapalooza on Labor Day.

Some 5,807 found job locally and 1,537 found overseas employment.

She said that over 20,000 jobseekers registered online. The applicants’ qualification have been sifted and pre-matched by employers, which cut screening time significantly.

“Some of them could be starting any day now, or are on final interview today,” she said.

Top job demands included engineers, receptionists, call center agents, human resource staff, mechanics, forklift operators, nurses, receptionists, construction workers, to name a few.

Padilla earlier said that over 60,000 to 80,000 jobs were offered in Jobapalooza-National Capital region alone. The job fair was held simultaneously in the country's 16 regions.

The fair also offered some 20,000 overseas jobs, through the 53 recruitment firms that participated in the event.

Overall, 200,000 jobs were offered to jobseekers nationwide.
