Your fondest memory of your lolo and lola
« on: September 26, 2007, 01:31:34 AM »
What was the best memory you have of your Lola and Lolo? Their love, their kindness, their support. Feel free to share your stories with us...

On that note, I think it would help induce memory if you were to visit this site at the same time:
http://www.hagonoy.com/haghimigframe.html Click on the song 'ANAK' by Freddie Aguilar.
Memories should immediately come back....

I never knew my mom's father, he died when mama was only 9 yrs old. My dad's father, I wasn't close to him either. But I have great memories of my great grandmother and my mommy...memories that I will forever cherish.

My great grandmother had beautiful hair, and she would let me comb her hair from time to time, with her pearl comb. I also miss the Inabangnon pastries she used to prepare for us. The fondest memory I have of mommy, was when she taught me how to say The Guardian Angel's Prayer...

The fondest memory I had of Mama Luz (dad's mama), was that when I was younger, we would go with my uncles, my sister, and my cousin Jing Jing to panglao. We would take our black jeep...and bring food with us, hahaha, all kinds of food that Mama Luz would cook (she was from Leyte, so she used to cook and bring sooo good dinuguan with puto, adobong baka, adobong chicken, menudo, kalamansi, cari cari, sinigang leytena, sweet rice etc. The whole family would go. When i was younger..i think i was like 3 or 4 (and i remember this like it was yesterday), she would feed me with her fingers..haha..and i would also try to feed my Mama Luz with my little fingers too..hahaha. She would smile and kiss my cheeks and would would rub her nose with my nose...mama Luz....

I love and really really miss my Mama Luz. She passed away in 1995, 4 years after we immigrated to the states. I wish i was there to say good bye to her....
Love you, mama Luz....always will. Mingaw ko imo...uy....

nah ako pirting daghana tawn. ang ako lolo sa side sa ako mom, malisang ko mokanaug sa karaang hagdanan kay naa siya sa ubos naglingkod sa rocking chair. everytime i come down the stairs he would pinch my nose kay pingak man lagi kuno. as for my dad's side, naa sad ng hinguto og kuhag uban until makatog then suhulan og 10 cents (lipay nako ana!). Curfew man lagi nako 6pm kay pangaji, nay kay laagan man tua dalhan og bunal, sutoy og dagan, hinay man modagan si lola kay tiguwang na lagi, nauna kog uli, tago kos aparador, lisang na sila kay they cant find me anywhere gabii ng daku, hasta sad ko nalisang na unsaon paggawas sa aparador kay siguradong makunotan o paasuhan ba kaha sa ganggangan.

my treasured moment is when i went home before my grandpa died, he was blind already and yet he knew it was me even by the touch of my hand. he narrated all my childhood antics and cried recalling all of it. it's like walking back the past and everything seem fresh and knowing he would die soon and never will i ever see him again

My Lolo Ciano....

My dear dear and loved Lolo Casiano Salise Salvo. Father of my mother Liza S. Lucino, father of Engr Alex Salvo, Engr Casiano Salvo Jr, father of Mr. Romeo Tan, father of Celeste S. Cagubcub and loving husband of my beloved Lola--Mrs. Fortunata Tan Salvo.

I have soooo many good memories of my Lolo, and I thank God everyday for the good times that I had with him as a child and as an adult. I remember when I was a child, i was waiting for him to come back from work (he was a truck driver--Salvo Lines), i think i was about 4 years old pa to...and he came back. Ning yell ko niya "Lolo Ciano!" pero wa siya ka dungog nako--kai loud baja ang makina sa truck niya. Na suko ko kai i thought he was ignoring me---and when lolo came to me--i tried ignoring him. Ingoon siya "Ondoy Bran, unsa man doy?". Mo hilak ba ja ko ..when i remember that...kai even to this day, mo remember si Lolo adto. When he came to the US in 2003 till 2005---i remember when I first saw him again and had a long conversation with him sa living room. Ingoon siya nako, "pasensya baja ko Doy--kadto sa una naka suko ka nako--sa bata pa ka. Kai naka ingoon ka gi ignored ka nako". I remember when he said that to me...my eyes balled out. I started crying so hard...and remember hugging my Lolo Ciano. Ning hilak kami together. Pinanga jud ko sa ahong lolo and i feel so very lucky and happy that my Lolo is so loving of me and his grandchildren tanan. My lolo Ciano is my favorite jud...kai his personality and his love is very much like my mommy's. Mo hilak ko time and again...knowing that he is 81 y/o and that naa siya didto sa Bohol. Gusto man ko if he was to stay with us..pero gi mingaw man siya sa bohol gud...
Mo hilak ko uy...kai di ko gusto mamatay ahong Lolo. I pray everyday to ask the good and kind Lord to give him a strong heart, strong faith, a strong spirit and a good body so that he will continue to live. Di ko gusto mo parted away from my only Lolo left. He is my one and only grandfather that i met in life. He raised me when i was still a child while my mom was in America as a nurse and my dad was in Saudi as an engineer. All i knew and remember was the face of my Lolo Ciano, my Lola Nating and Mama Luz. The good Lord has already taken my Lola Nating and Mama Luz back home....and all I have left is my Lolo....

I really cannot wait to go back to Bohol this summer. I want to see him again...my heart longs to be with my Lolo Ciano again, to speak and laugh with him and just to be around his presence.

My lolo in the center of the family....he is the rock of our family.

With his two son-in-laws (my dad in the right)

Lolo Ciano ..hahaha..i love you 'LO!!!

Back in Bohol...

Just like Ms. C2, I also had fond memories with my paternal great grandmother (Lola Pinay) and great grandaunts (Memang Sisay and Papay Lemun! They share one big, old house in Taloto. They each had roles in the household.  Lola Pinay, being the eldest of the 3 sisters, was the head of the family but Memang was the provider and the budget officer while Papay was the worker in the house.  They were so beautiful ladies! Whenever we don't have rice or corn to eat, we would go to Taloto and even without saying a word, Lola Pinay, would sneak out a bag of rice for us to take home but always, whenever they see us, they would ask if we have eaten.  Even if we say yes, they would still direct us to the kitchen for tinughong.

Next chapter na naman the story for my maternal and paternal grandparents!

else, ill immediately lay down sa sofa nya pretend nga natulog and magdrama pud tawn si lolo nga "uyy natulog man ako apo"

funny ky it's like everyday!!! kada lunchtime niya nga uli.

Angel (my younger sister) and Jing Jing (my 1st degree cousin) used to play next to Mama Luz. When we came back from Bohol Wisdom School, mo adto baja mi sa balay ni Mama Luz. Ingoon man to si Angel ni Mama Luz, "Kamusta man ka Mama Luz" in her very thick bisaya accent sa una. Mama Luz would kiss her with her cheeks. Then taga'an mi ug pandesal and coke. Hahaha.

Or sometimes, when Mama Luz was eating ginamos, mo kaun pood si angel sa iyahang ginamos, hahaha. Hand fed si Angel sa iyang Mama Luz. Our grandmother.

Mao sigoro na 4'11 si Angel, pariho ni Mama Luz kai gi hand fed man to sija niya. Pinangga baya to si Angel ni Mama Luz..

Boy I miss my grandma.

I also remember a story my dad told me:

When my dad was only a little boy (he was the eldest in his family), Mama Luz and Papa Ting (my grandparents) would make sure all of the kids would sleep and have a nap time. One time kono, Daddy woke up from his nap and tried to slide from the bed to sneak away from the bedroom to play downstairs. As he opened the door kono, ingoon to si Mama Luz ni Daddy, "Rico, balik dinhi. Tug na ta."

hahahahaha.

:P

And now, my dad and my mom make sure my little baby brother Andre has a nap time with them. When Don-Don was also a little boy, he would have a nap time with my dad. The dreaded, "5 minutes" hahaha. Lingaw kaayo.
