Laurel and Hardy Museum in Solingen

Vera und Wolfgang Günther
Only after their wedding in the year 1970 Vera Schuitemaker, born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and Wolfgang Guenther, born in Solingen, Germany discovered their mutual love for the cinema, particularly to the American Slapstick silent movie in general and their special love for Stan & Ollie.

With heart and soul the two collected the exhibits in the whole world, and not only Vera greats the visitors when they come in, she is also responsible for the arrangement, the decoration and the cosy atmosphere.

One day without laughter is a lost day!

Inday Pinangga maayo kay naka-abot ka sa Maulbronn!

Founded in 1838, it emerged from a settlement, built about a monastery, which belonged to the Neckar Community in the Kingdom of Württemberg. In 1886, Maulbronn officially became a city and was an administrative center until 1938. The return of many displaced persons following the Second World War significantly raised the city's population.

Of particular note is the city's monastery, Maulbronn Abbey, which features prominently in Hermann Hesse's novel, Beneath the Wheel. The formerly Cistercian monastery has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993.

Legend has it that the city was founded by monks who followed a mule to valley with a source of clean water. The valley was also blessed with large deposits of soft sandstone for building. The monks built the original abbey and erected a fountain to honor the mule. The cities name means mule fountain.

This afternoon, we have had a Filipino Catholic mass in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Elberfeld. Our regular priest Fr Jun de Ocampo SVD was not able to come due to teeth extractions and we had Fr Eufemio Sombrio SVD, a Bol-anon from Loon.  We were happy to have him as our mass celebrant and he has a strong rapport to us, how we wished he will served the Filipino community in North Rhine-westfalia!

Die Schwebebahn

The suspension railway is a monorail suspended from a steel supporting frame with a rail built underneath it. It hangs on wheels which are driven by electric motor operating at 600 volts DC.

The supporting frame and tracks are made out of 486 pillars and bridgework sections. The terminuses at each end of the line also serve as train depots and reversers.

The current fleet consists of twenty-seven[5] two-car trains[1] built in the 1970s. The cars are 24 metres long and have 4 doors. One carriage can seat 48 and stand approximately 130 passengers The top speed is 60 km/h and the average speed is 27 km/h.

The Kaiserwagen, the original train used by Emperor Wilhelm II during a test ride on 24 October 1900, is still operated on special occasions and for charter events. Wikipedia

A mass was said today in St Anthony Church which was dedicated to the town people who perished (6,000) last world War II, it was a solemn moment to remind everyone that war is not a solution and no war should  happen again in a German soil. Nationalism and a form of totalitarian regime like that of Hitler should never be forgotten.

Fronleichnam in Wuppertal.
Corpus Christi (Latin for Body of Christ) is a Western Catholic feast. It is also celebrated in some Anglican  and Lutheran churches. It honors the Eucharist, which believers hold to be the actual body and blood of Christ, and as such it does not commemorate a particular event in Jesus' life. It is held on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday or, in some places, on the following Sunday. Its celebration on a Thursday is meant to associate it with institution by Jesus of the Eucharist during the Last Supper, commemorated on Maundy Thursday, and this is the first free Thursday after Paschaltide.  In the Ordinary form[clarification needed] of the Roman rite of the Catholic Church, the feast is officially known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.

In many English-speaking countries, Corpus Christi is transferred to the Sunday after Trinity Sunday by both Catholics and Anglicans. At the end of the Mass, it is customary to have a Procession of the Blessed Sacrament (often outdoors), followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Wikipedia

The Wupper river;

Wuppertal (German pronunciation: [ˈvʊpɐtaːl]) is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located on the Wupper river south of the Ruhr area. Population 361,333 (2005).

Two thirds of the total municipal area is green belt: woods, meadows, gardens and fields. From any part of the city it is only a ten-minute walk to one of the public parks or shady woodland path. At the same time it is a major industrial centre including such industries as: textiles, metallurgy, chemicals, medicine (Bayer), electric, rubber, vehicles and printing equipment. One of the most famous pain-killers, Aspirin, was invented in Wuppertal by Bayer.

The Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy is located in this city.
