Operatives of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) on Thursday arrested a construction worker in connection with the gun slaying of Carl Vinson Apura, son of Carcar City Mayor Nicepuro Apura, last Sunday.
Suspect Jay Boy Lauron, 28, a resident of Barangay Carreta, Cebu City, was nabbed in Barangay Tri Onion, Catigbian,
Bohol.
CPPO head Chief Insp. Teodulfo Manatad III said the Lauron tried to flee after spotting arresting lawmen, but but was quickly cornered after a brief chase Thursday afternoon
Lauron owned to the killing of the younger Apura but said that he did not know the victim was the mayor's son.
He also claimed that he was at dance floor in Barangay Valladolid with friends when Apura challenged him to a gun duel for no apparent reason.
Fearing that he would be killed, the suspect alleged that he immediately pulled out his gun and shot the victim once.
Lauron also said he was under the influence of liquor during the commission of crime.
