Manay, I must tell you that i found it hilarious how your son Chris jokingly referred Guindulman as "G"-LAND. hahaha!
You truly are an amazing lady with an infectious laugh. Hoping that your stay in Bohol was fun, eventful and family-filled as was mine.

Did Chris use the new Bisaya word I taught him? haha!

It was indeed a pleasure to meet Manay at the airport where she surprised me with her immediate response, "Oy doy!" lol. Saying goodbye to my family was emotional for me, goodbyes in general are a sensitive for this gentle giant of a man.
As my eyes were welling with tears as I hugged goodbye to my Uncle Roger, Uncle Rey , Uncle Renee, Ate Aurora, Inday Sophie, Inday Daniella, Auntie Daisy and the entire entourage of family and friends,..i also saw Manay again.

Being able to talk to her and laugh with her at her general report (things she did in the trip) actually softened the parting process. It was not until my Delta Flight left for Nagoya Japan, and then to Detroit, Michigan USA that I actually started to get emotional again--missing my extended family.

So to Manay, thank you for making me laugh and for sharing your wonderful experiences in Bohol. You're a good lady.

I didn expect to meet Lorenzo personally, thinking all the while all his stop-overs, Leyte, Cebu and Bohol`(hectic na kaayo). Mora man kini siya ug nag sentimental journey, plus mas eager siya ma-met si Fr Lungay ( Chicogon). Si Inday Lumine ang nag follow up nga nia sa Bohol si Ondoy busa, nag kahigayon mi ug kita. Dinhe pako sa Germany daghan nakong gi-isip buhaton, apan sa Bohol, lahi ang sitwasyon ug usahay adunay mga kakuli-an nga dili malikayan sama sa kay Prescila Richards, naglisod ko ug coordinate. Pressy better luck next time, I´ll try to make it up.

Personal and sentimental journey truly best describes my visit to the Philippines. It has been 12 years since I last visited the Philippines (1998). I not only visited Bohol and made rounds in Cebu, but one of the major spots that I needed to visit was Leyte. For the first time in my life, I was able to visit and pay my respects to my paternal great-grandparents: Mr. Teodolo D. Ebuenga Sr & Mrs. Hermogena T. Ebuenga (my father's maternal grandparents) and Mr. Bernardo Lucino Sr & Mrs. Maria A. Lucino. (my father's paternal grandparents).

My grand aunt accompanied me to their grave sites and colloquially referred me as their 'apo nga sungay'. I never knew I had so many relatives in Leyte. The entire town of Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte apparently knew my great grandfather and the barangay captain of sawang was my grand uncle. Of the Ebuenga Family. Upon visiting Pintuyan (esp. Baranggay Catbawan), I realized that the entire bario were filled and populated with Lucinos, Estrellas, Mascarinas (who are related to me). I found out that the Mayor of Pintuyan was my Lolo Lolong (Mayor Cipriano Lucino), who was a 3-term mayor of Pintuyan.

The Lucino home base is not Bohol, but is in Pintuyan, Southern Leyte.

Upon visiting Leyte, I realized that I want to see more of the region. Perhaps in my next visit to the Philippines, I can realize this goal and further explore my paternal side's home region. For so long I only knew about Bohol, and only little of Leyte.

I remember standing on the beaches of Tangka-an and saw with my eyes Limasawa Island to my north, and Pintuyan Island to my northwest and the Philippine Trench to my distant east. This was a place of history, the site of one of the largest naval battles in human history during the Battle of Leyte Gulf in 1944. There is so much history ...

I discovered a part of myself in this trip. I discovered not only my Bisayan roots, but discovered my Leyteno bloodline, my Leyteno history.....
