Baclayon Mayor Alvin Uy sustained the aggressive campaign against illegal fishing in the municipality.

In fact, Uy commended the police team and the fish warden for the recent arrest of illegal fishers caught in the act of violating a  municipal ordinance.

The Baclayon police force recently caught a commercial fishing boat operating within the municipal waters.

The commercial fishing boat was reportedly owned by one Elmer Chavez, a resident of Poblacion I, Tagbilaran City.

SPO2 Jay Paredes narrated that while they were patrolling along the seawaters of Baclayon, the municipal police team and the the fish warden spotted the F/B Elzon 7 that was catching fish in the area.

The police team found the fihermen to have violated Municipal Ordinance 3 series of 2007.

Caught in the act were the boat captain as Teodoro Maurillo, the boat engineer as Cercio Casiro, and 34 other crew.

They were brought to the police station for interrogation.

Paredes said it was agreed that the banca operator has to pay the penalty of P2,500 for each of the crew.

After paying the total penalty reached about P90,000, the fishermen were set free. - Sunday Post
