Looking further however--and from a larger economic perspective--another important consideration would be the concept of comparative advantage. After all, Bohol does not exist in isolation, and therefore there is no need for us Boholanos to produce everything that we need.

A hypothetical scenario: After years of massive and successful reforestation, Bohol has become a virtual forest aside from ample areas reserved for the needs of human habitation. Agricultural production is reduced to a minimum. However, the province earns so much money from its forest resources such that it can easily afford to buy food items from neighboring provinces, even from other countries.

I can't help but notice that despite Bohol's taking the lead in agricultural production and forest cover in the country, there are still swaths of land that are idle and backyards that are untended (including mine). At this point, there is still room for expanding crop production. We have not reached yet the point of having to choose between crops and trees kay sub-optimal pa man ang atong cultivation.

i actually have the same hopes... the regional hub which is cebu does not have the capacity to grown its food requirement as well as basic resources such as potable water. this present condition should give bohol leaders the impetus to follow a development path that will see bohol as the bread basket of central visayas. indeed, there is still room to plant more crops, my own backyard included :-)

Corruption waters down Bohol's water projects. The dams are damned.  We should not relent on shaking down those responsible for the shameful Talibon Dam.
