CAMP PANACAN, Davao City, May 26 (PNA) -- The attempt of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and its armed wing New People's Army (NPA) to attribute human rights violations to the Philippine government is a cover to mask their record of killing people, according to a top military commander in Mindanao.
“Unknown to many peace-loving people, part of the dark schemes and dirty strategies of (CPP founder) Jose Ma. Sison is for the Philippines to be tagged in the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, and even in the international community, as a notorious human rights violator,†Maj. Gen. Reynaldo B. Mapagu, commanding general of the Philippine Army’s Southern Mindanao 10th Infantry (Agila) Division, said on Tuesday.
In fact, Mapagu said the CPP has turned “brutal†as shown by its notorious records.
In the area of responsibility of the PA's 10th “Agila†Division, Mapagu said a consolidated report since 2004 alone listed a total of 98 atrocities that were committed by the CPP/NPA -- 60 liquidations, 16 abductions, and 22 cases of arson.
“Their notorious records show that they not only murder people, but ensure that communities are impoverished forever. By sabotaging the economy, and creating fissures in the government ranks, they intend to make the government weak until they could achieve their plan to establish a Maoist-inspired dictatorship,†Mapagu stressed.
