This is an abstract of a research by a colleague of mine who graduated last semester.

Effects of Bisphenol A on Thyroid Hormones (T3) of the South African Clawed Frog, Xenopus laevis during Metamorphosis

By: M.F. Enos
Major: Molecular Biology

Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDC) leach into water supplies and can potentially disrupt triiodothyronine (T3) levels. The south African clawed frog, Xenopus laevis, is commonly used in testing thyroid hormones and EDCs, due to a T3 mediated metamorphosis. Bisphenol A, an EDC, is known to affect estrogen levels and to have feminizing effects on male organism; it is also structurally similar to T3 and tetraiodothyronine (T4). Bisphenol A (BPA) was administered to the water for 32 days to determine if inhibition of metamorphosis occurred with a corresponding decrease of T3 levels, which were quantified with a Human T3 ELISA. BPA concentrations were tested at 2ug/L, 200ug/L and 2000ug/L, with controls of EtOH, T4 (1ug/L) and Propylthiouracil (PTU) (75mg/L).

All bisphenol A treated animals metamorphosed faster than any of the controls. T3 levels were significantly lowered in BPA treatments of 2ug/L and 2000ug/L compared to EtOH. A significant decrease in T3 levels is also observed between the negative control T4, the positive control PTU when compared to EtOH. Bisphenol A, even in very minute doses, is capable of altering T3 concentrations, thyroid function, and increasing the rate of metamorphosis.

Ah okay, Ate Ging.

Ang role sa atong thyroid is for the synthesizing of the enzyme thyroxin; additionally, the thyroid is also known as the thermostat of the body, as it regulates the metabolic rate of the body. There are two kinds of thyroid diseases, hyperactive thyroid and hypoactive thyroid disease.

Hyperactive is when the thyroid is over-regulating and producing too much thyroxin; hypoactive is when it has been reduced in activity; both of these disease are caused by autoimmune diseases. Immunity in general is being assaulted by toxic chemicals in food, water, and air. Under-active or hypothyroid conditions can cause low energy. An effect of this is  cholesterol can shoot up to dangerous levels.

(Recommended by the Department of Health)

You might want to send this to you relatives 'te.

Vitamin/Mineral Therapy

    * B-Complex vitamins to help improve cellular oxygenation and energy, build the adrenals and the thyroid and calm the nerves. Vita Balance 2000 is a properly balanced, vitamin and chelated mineral complex.
    * Vitamin A assists in maintaining normal glandular function. M.U. Tene is concentrated Beta-Carotene, the precursor to Vitamin A and one of nature's most powerful antioxidants.
    * Vitamin C promotes normal adrenal function and glandular activity. Magnum C is an improved form of C known as "Ester C".
    * Essential fatty acids are a must for glandular health and they improve over all health. These can be omega 3's and 6's from marine lipids, flax oil or flax seed, black current seed oil, evening primrose oil, or borage oil. New Life 1000 provides essential fatty acids from cold water salmon oil. Life Plus provides essential fatty acids from Blackcurrent Seed Oil.
    * Multi-minerals either liquid or chelated form. All minerals are involved in glandular heath. Vita Balance 2000 is a properly balanced, vitamin and chelated mineral complex. It includes all the trace minerals and a herbal base of related micronutrients.
    * Calcium / magnesium, manganese, selenium, silicon and zinc protect the glands. High Grade Calcium Complex provides a microcrystalline form of calcium, plus a balance of associated nutrients necessary for proper calcium assimilation.
    * Iodine supplementation from kelp or dulse, 225 -1,000 micrograms a day.
    * Desiccated natural thyroid, complete with all thyroid hormones. If the symptoms are mild this form may be enough support. If they are severe a synthetic hormone such as thyroxin may be in order.

You're welcome 'te.
These are just herbal-oriented healthy daily habits.
Ang importante is for your relatives to keep on seeing the doctors. Especially keep on taking drugs to stimulate thyroxin production (in the case of hypothyroid disorder) or reduce and regulate production (as in the case of hyperthyroid disorder).

My best regards to your relatives and a speedy recovery!

I'm not really sure, 'te. You'd have to ask a physician for a concrete answer.

Pero from anatomy courses, all I know is that thyroid disorders are due to chemical imbalances (in this case thyroxin activity and metabolic activity). Everything is interrelated; im sure with proper chemical therapy, one can be 'normal'. Pero it is usually impossible to be completely 'cured'.

Chemical imbalances are a manifestation of genetic, more so chromasomatic degeneracy. It is part of aging, and or autoimmune attack.

Pero, if i were you id ask multiple physicians for their opinion.
They are the final guys on this.

Sige 'te, i hope i helped a bit.
