A long wanted top robbery suspect mustering in hold-up was arrested by alert operatives of the Inabanga PNP while resting at his residence in barangay Luyo, Inabanga town last Thursday night.
Michael Lao, 25, is the prime suspect linked to at least 3 broad daylight hold-up incidents in the city.
Lao is linked to the hold-upping of Florencio L:im Caltex Gas Station, employees of FCB Foundation, and a cashier of Unitop Department Store who was about to deposit over P500,000 to a bank here.
The suspect is also known responsible for a series of robberies in Inabanga town and is operating with a younger brother, Christopher Lao, 19, who was also arrested by police last year. Two other members of their group is a subject of a manhunt by the PNP.
According to Inabanga PNP investigator PO3 Herminigildo Abella, Lao was sighted by police agents in barangay Nabuan, Inabanga last Wednesday, prompting them to conduct surveillance at his residence in barangay Luyo.
Lao was allegedly having a drinking session at around 8 p.m. Friday when PO3 Roberto Vistal and PO3 Lybio Suarez Jr. came to arrest him.
PO3 Abella told the Chronicle that Lao did not attempt to elude the policemen.
Lao, who is now detained at the Inabanga PNP Lock-up Jail, will be tried for two counts of theft in Inabanga while he will also be facing trial for robbery cases to be filed by the City PNP.
60-DAY ULTIMATUMPNP Provl Director SSupt. Edgardo Ingking issued a 60-day deadline for PNP chiefs to arrest robbery suspects behind unsolved robbery cases in the municipalities.
The order was issued after Ingking was irked on reports that some robbery cases in the towns remain unsolved.
Ingking also adopted a reward and demerit system while announcing that the Provincial PNP command will reward P1,000 for every solved robbery.
Towns with no robbery incidents will also be awarded, Ingking assured.(July 1, 2007)
