This monkey's favorite is actually a potassium rich fruit and therefore a quick- energy food highly recommended for humans, too.
But just like any other item in the market today, this variety of banana is also getting pricier. To get the most out of the demand, Inabanga Mayor Jose Jono Jumamoy rallied his constituents, initially of Barangay Ilihan, to plant lakatan for commercial purposes.
Jumamoy, Vice Mayor Wenceslao Lao, Sangguniang Bayan (SB) member Nena Melecio, Municipal Agriculturist Leocadio Torregosa, Planning Officer Nick Taño and Ilihan Barangay Captain Patricio Requierme led other officials during the project launching where they planted suckers at the 20-hectare site.
To note, top in Jumamoy's agenda for his town is poverty reduction through livelihood for the people, lakatan production among them.
"If Mindanao can, there is no reason why the Boholanos cannot," said the mayor whose mother, former mayor and now Provincial Board member Josephine Socorro Jumamoy grew up and studied in Bukidnon.
