Fashion Show Using Raffia Fiber
« on: June 28, 2009, 10:44:19 PM »
A fashion show featuring gowns and garments using raffia fiber and a hip jingle that may soon hit the air-lanes are just two of the ways Team Inabanga  employs to re-introduce the traditional and yet re-packaged saguran weave to the Generation x.

Both would be debuting to the public on June 29, the night when the town would have proven to the world that Inabanga has become synonymous to raffia, creativity and craftsmanship.

“Party jockeys would soon work on party remixes for the raffia jingle, says Mayor Jono Jumamoy who masterminds a drive to re-instill the value of keeping raffia traditions alive in the minds of young Inabanganons.

The jingle, written and composed by native Inabangnons tell a story about a college student who has forgotten an industry that has sustained him in his childhood, the mayor said.

“Raffia, Inabanga: name recall,” says Jumamoy during an interview as he stressed that the team has decided to venture into the new brands to keep an identity that their people can call as uniquely their own.

According to him, Inabanga raffia is not the same as the old saguran. “It is a revolutionized hinabol that feature interestingly modern and optical art designs that may be hip for the young and old.”

As Mayor Jumamoy is seeing it, the game plan is to associate raffia as a brand.
“From an old saguran that many would scoff at, we have a material that has successfully shown promise as modern day garment material as was seen during last years’ raffia fashion show at Bohol’s Island City Mall,” he added.

For Team Inabanga, it is finding creative ways to get younger generation re-appreciate the beauty of the old traditional hand weaving that has motivated them to go for the new promotional channels.

Hopefully, people look back at the promise of the Inabangnon creativity and craftsmanship, get them back to the handlooms and produce the bulk demanded by international buyers, the mayor stressed.

Recently too, the town has adopted a seal that many have praised as uniquely simple but carries a historic pride for the people. The seal feature half a cross and a bolo: symbols of the Christian faith and the famed Dagohoy rebellion.

Its not the hype or the pride, above all, it is providing the people the opportunity to alleviate themselves from poverty and we can work from there, he stressed.  (PIA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
