Farming has gone a long way from the primitive nature-dependent passive type because of technology developed through the years.
To ensure that farmers and fisher-folk, students and other researchers are kept abreast with new technologies to ensure better yield - and income - Mayor Jose Jono Jumamoy led local officials in launching the Farmers Information and Technology Services (FITS) Center in Inabanga.
Jumamoy said the new facility complements the local government unit's and rural-based organizations' efforts in providing information delivery and technology services. It also strengthens the link among the technology generator, technology services and adaptors.
The FITS aims to develop, validate and promote modalities that will facilitate technology promotion and utilization.
Guests at the launching included Provincial Agriculturist Liza Quirog, Executive Assistant Joseph Lemuel Camacho who represented Gov. Erico Aumentado, Assistant Professor Alma Vilma Sumampong of the Central Visayas State College of Agriculture, Forestry and Technology (CVSCAFT) and Dr. Arturo Arganosa of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PICARRD).
