Surfing street child prepare their boards before going for a surf off New Pier in Durban, South Africa, 10 August 2010. The street children who surf are supported by the Umthombo street children organization. Umthombo is a unique South African street children organization led predominantly by former street children and aims to change the way that society perceives and treats street children. One of the treatment avenues is to teach the children to surf. In this way underprivileged children can enjoy a sport otherwise inaccessible to them. Unthombo has successfully helped children find employment both at the centre and in normal jobs. Many of the surfing street children still live in the streets and often have addiction problems with glue. EPA/KIM LUDBROOK
