About 80 bales of used clothing locally known as “ukay-ukay†transported from Cebu to Tubigon, Bohol were seized by coast guard officials Friday night.
Commander William Isaga, chief of staff of the Philippine Coast Guard Eastern and Central Visayas district, said his men intercepted the illegal cargo on board M/V Jadestar 3 minutes after the vessel docked at the Tubigon port.
“We were looking for the owner but no one came to claim the cargo,†he said.
The clothes were valued at close to P400,000.
The used clothings were allegedly sourced from the Carbon market in Cebu City to be sold in Bohol, he said.
