The commemoration of the Magellan-Elcano expedition, five centuries later, aims to:

Contribute to the junction between different cultures and sciences of every people around the world.

Facilitate the participation and integration in this commemoration of initiatives from different cities and countries.

Make known worldwide the city that saw depart and successfully complete the first circumnavigation of the globe, one of the greatest achievements performed by humans.

Provide Sanlúcar de Barrameda a universal city project, developing actions which serve as a celebration of the historical past of the city, while constituting a legacy for its future.

looking at the route, magellan had his last 20 days in cebu before crossing to mactan to meet his fate at the hands of lapulapu, a boholano claimed by cebuanos as cebuano just because he happened to be in mactan to visit his girlfriend.  he's actually from talibon who often swam to mactan.  atlan ug away, nagpabilib dayon.  the rest is history and yoyoy villame's song. ;D

Bwahaha! Another "historical" tidbit: Rajah Humabon offered a fortune for the ransom of Magellan's body. Lapulapu, being a poor Boholano dragonfly, was so excited with the idea of being a rich man at last so together with his loyal followers he scoured the waters of the Batul ob Maktan , but to no avail. They could not find even one Portuguese incisor or fingernail. The educated guess of historians was that he was literally torn to little pieces which were carried away by the tide. Ang tinuod, gihimong pulutan si Magellan--of course not by the visiting Boholanos, but by the natives of the island!

;D
