The Philippine-American War was the United States' first experience in fighting a guerrilla-based war. The some 60,000 US army that was sent to pacify the Philippines in this war was composed mostly of veteran indian fighters as well as the cavalry units that fought the Spanish Army in Cuba. More American soldiers died fighting the Filipino Revolutionary Army than did fighting the Spanish Army during the Spanish-American War.
