Learn from road accidents, follow basic safety measures
By Leilani S. Junio

MANILA, Feb. 27 (PNA) -- A Department of Health (DOH) official on Monday called on motorists to learn from recent road accidents so they could ensure their safety while on the road.

One or two persons’ negligence could lead to the loss of many lives, Undersecretary Dr. Gerardo Bayugo told a media briefing at the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center (ARMMC) in Marikina City.

Bayugo also advised motorists to follow basic safety measures, such as checking the vehicle’s general condition, especially the engine, brakes, tires, and water level, and ensure that the vehicle is not overloaded.

The health official gave the reminders as he and the medical center’s director, Dr. Emmanuel Bueno, gave an update on the status of patients from the bus accident in Tanay, Rizal that claimed the lives of 15 people, 14 of them students of Bestlink College.

Bueno noted of the 36 patients rushed to the hospital, one died in the emergency room, one was transferred to the Rizal Medical Center, seven are still in the hospital, 11 have since been discharged and 16 sustained minor injuries and were sent home. Of the seven still confined in the hospital, three are recovering from their surgeries while four are scheduled to be discharged within the week.

On behalf of Health Secretary Dr. Paulyn Ubial, Bayugo thanked the early responders and rescuers for their quick response, thus limiting the number of fatalities. Bueno likewise commended the school administration and bus owners for shouldering the hospital expenses.

Bayugo also said that according to Ubial, the health department will shoulder the patients’ recovery and rehabilitation expenditures that will not be covered by the health insurance. (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
