TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines – The Ubujan contingent is not made up of professional dancers, merely eager amateurs but they got it right during the 2nd “Saulog” Street Dance Competition 2014 on the eve (April 30) of this city’s annual fiesta celebration in honor of St. Joseph, the worker and patron saint at CPG sports complex.

The Ubujan contingent with Barangay chairperson Mary Jane Ruiz at the helm was declared the grand champ, wowing judges in their scintillating costume and dazzling overall performance.

Ubujan also harvested six other minor awards: Saulog’s “Best in Musicality,” “Best in Choreography,” “Best In Production Design,” “Best in Costume,” “Most Colorful,” and “Best in Field Performance,” the judges declared.

Aside from cash of minor awards, the Ubujan contingent received from City Mayor Baba Yap and his wife, Jane Cajes-Yap the amount of PhP150,000 cash and trophy after the announcement made by city administrator Leonides “Edi” Borja and Ms. Glo Araneta, who served as hosts of the more than three-hour program.        Barangay Taloto dancers garnered the second spot pocketing a hefty PhP100,000 cash plus trophy and Barangay Manga led by Barangay chairperson Leda Saco — was declared 3rd place with PhP70,000 cash plus trophy.

The contingent of Poblacion II clinched the “Best in Streetdancing,” and “Most Lively” awards. Barangay Dao is the “Most Discipline Group;” Barangay San Isidro – “Best In Ambiance,” and Barangay Dampas – “Best in Finale Performance.”
