Ubay Bohol Not Ready for Cityhood
« on: January 29, 2011, 09:04:43 AM »
UBAY. Cityhood of this municipality may take some time.

Second district representative Erico B. Aumentado said, "naa pay daghang rekisitos nga wa pa matuman sa Ubay. Pananglitan, kay Science City man kini, gikinahanglan nato ang maayong mercado nga dili manemaho, mercado nga orderly" (so many requisites the town of Ubay has yet to be complied with. For instance, as a Science City we need a good, orderly and non-stinky wet market.)

In an exclusive interview with the Chronicle, Aumentado admitted having not filed yet in Congress his House Bill creating Ubay as a Science City considering the deficiencies.

The homegrown congressman deplored the lack of a municipal development master plan. On this aspect, Aumentado said that along with mayor Eutiquio Bernales he sought the assistance from the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) who likewise obliged to prepare the same.

Aumentado said in vernacular that "if we are going to be a city, we should have a good master plan and to religiously implement the requisites especially in the operation of a wet market where sanitation, orderliness, administration and cleanliness is "a must".

Another requirement for the municipality is a good sewerage system, Aumentado added.

On the other hand, Pelagia O. Reyes, a retired MLGOO here, said that she had already completed the gathering of the documentary evidence especially on the agricultural infrastructures. Reyes was tasked to collate the same to support the proposed House Bill of Aumentado.

Ubay had an income of more than P107 million in last year, said Municipal Treasurer Deosecito R. Butawan while the 2006 statistics showed a population of more than 65,000.

In a related development, Aumentado disclosed that mayor Bernales immediately created a Task Force to address the requirements. Vice Mayor Constantino H. Reyes was appointed to head said Task Force whom the latter acted with dispatch, the congressman said.

Last Thursday the construction of a new wet market started with budget of P3 million from the LGU while another P2 million as counterpart from Cong. Aumentado. (Wenny Reyes)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
