A team of surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses from the Association of Filipino Physicians of Southern Illinois (AFPSI) together with other physicians from different states of America, a humanitarian-oriented organization of Fil-Am medical professionals in the United States (US), arrived at the Tagbilaran City Airport via a Philippine Airlines flight at 10:15 a.m. yesterday.
The delegation planed in yesterday in time for the surgical mission at the Borja Family Hospital along Gallares Street this city.
The visiting US surgical team their 5th time mission composed of 24 highly experienced surgical specialists, led by team leader Dr. Renato Rivera, was welcomed at the airport yesterday morning by Gov. Edgar M. Chatto, Philippine Gift of Life (PGL) president/CEO Fancy Baluyot, who is also the Consultant of Gov. Chatto's Medical-Surgical Missions Office.
The AFPSI group was then fetched and treated to a welcome lunch buffet yesterday noon at the Bohol Tropics Resort, courtesy of the provincial government of Bohol led by Gov. Edgar M. Chatto and Vice-Gov. Concepcion O. Lim, Member of Sangguniang Panlalawigan Provincial Administrator Alfonso "Ae" Damalerio.
The great humanitarian mission is being supported by the Provincial Government of Bohol thru Gov. Edgar M. Chatto and Vice-Gov. Concepcion O. Lim, the Philippine Gift of Life thru Chairman, Dr. Ramie A. Cadag, President/CEO, Fancy S. Baluyot and Department of Health thru Secretary Enrique T. Ona and Assistant Secretary Dr. Elmer G. Punzalan.
The medical screening of patients is ongoing early today and at 3 p.m. a series of major surgical operations at the Borja Family Hospital will start, which included corrective surgeries for breast cyst, goiter, myoma, cleft lip/palate, gallbladder, hernia, and thyroid problems among indigent beneficiaries.
