PRESS RELEASE
Provincial Government Media Affairs Office

The number of people living in a particular area, where they live and how they live all affect the condition of its environment. People can alter the environment through their use, or misuse of natural resources and the production of wastes. Changes in environmental conditions, in turn, affects human health and well being. Human demographic dynamics such as the size, growth, distribution, age composition, and migration of populations, are among the many factors that can lead to environmental change.

The province of Bohol boasts of its eco-tourism and yet are manifestations of a healthy imbalance of this relationship between population, health and environment like for example the loss of life of some residents due to dengue fever an effect consequently effected by the depletion of mosquito predators brought about by the loss or diminishing of their habitats to give way for construction of additional shelter for the increasing human population.

Thus the City government of Tagbilaran thru its City Health Office organized a “Workshop on Communicating Population-Health-Environment Messages on August 9-10, 2007 at the Bohol Agricultural Promotion Center here in the city to more than 75 participants composed mainly of barangay officials, health workers and even doctors of the City Health Office to capacitate them in creation of IECs (Information, Education, Communication) materials of their preference to be able to effectively advocate, educate and urge the general populace, in this case, the Tagbilaranons in realizing the relevance and the significance of making efforts whether big or small in maintaining and promoting the balance of the relationship of the Population-Health-Environment linkage.

The activity was accomplished through the partnership/collaboration of the Tagbilaran City government thru the City Health Office, the Provincial Health Office, the Social Development arm of the FCB Foundation, PopCom regional and local office, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the local media thru the Provincial Government Media Affairs (Bruce Zabala - PGMA).
