Special Forces in Bohol Enhances Combat Skills

BILAR, Bohol – The men in uniform of the 2nd Special Forces based here are not only trained for combat operations but also in enhancing their competencies as an individual and the entire unit as a whole.

In his letter to Gov. Edgar Chatto, newly-installed SF commander Julius Tomines said that the training activity which ran from August 14-17, 2012 includes the officers and enlisted men of his force with the participation of some members of the Philippine National Police.

Among the expectations that the participants may gain from the Stakeholders Engagement Training include understanding of the risk of vulnerability of labor sector, youth and indigenous people to recruitment of the communist movement. They are also expected to acquire and put to practice the knowledge and skills in conflict management and the process on consensus-building and decision-making.

The 56 active participants are also expected to understand on the identification of different stakeholders, their roles, responsibilities and functions in the community; and acquire knowledge on creative and strategic solutions for complex problems and situations. Learning the process of community organizing as an effective tool in sustaining the community development is also a paramount for the trainee’s development.

Captain Nelson Boticario of the SF tackled the stakeholders’ engagement topic while Mr. Larry Pamugas discussed on community organizing. Engaging with the labor sector by Mr. Gerry Guidaben of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE); youth sector subject matter by Stephen Bryan Bongcaras; Lecture on mediation by Ms. Carmelita Tecson, OIC of the provincial social welfare and development office; and Consensus building by Ms. Liza Quirog, head of the Social Economic environment management cluster of the governor’s office. Topics on negotiation, media sector by Mr. Rey Chiu of Philippine Information Agency and indigenous people’s concern were also undertaken.

Tomines expressed gratitude to the governor for “constant assistance and support” which he considers an “inspiring factors that cheers us to perform our duties with all our best to maintain and promote peace and development in Bohol”and the country. (RVO)
