Gov. Edgar M. Chatto declared an all-out war against malnutrition as he distributed weighing scales to 1, 109 barangay nutrition scholars present during the 9th Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) Congress at the Lila Multi-Purpose Center on Wednesday, November 16.

Chatto also announced a new partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the University of the Philippines Manila to pilot in Bohol a unified program strategy through a data profiling software system and food production technology specific to address child nutrition.

“While we outstanding nutrition programs already implemented in the province, we want to be able to achieve 0% malnutrition,” the governor, who also sits as Provincial Nutrition Council Chair said in his keynote address.

It can be recalled that Bohol was recognized as most outstanding province in the region at the 2011 Grand Nutrition Awards. Bohol also bagged all major awards such as the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN), Outstanding Municipality, Nutrition Honor Maintenance, Most Promising Municipality, and Most Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar awards.

Four committed barangay nutrition scholars were honored with service awards for having been in service for 25 years, thus exemplifying loyalty, dedication, and exemplary devotion to the craft. Given recognition were Librado Dellosa, Fe Manlupig, Judith Virtudazo, and Radigunda Sinajon.

BNS Federated President Nene Ordinario also reported on the BNS Provincial Association’s 2011 accomplishments.

During the congress, barangay nutrition scholars also listened to talks from Provincial Nutrition Action Officer and Office of the Agriculturist OIC Larry Pamugas on the Countryside Development Program or the Purok Power Movement, and Leo Plazos on Improved Public Relations for Service Delivery.
