If no outpouring of rain in the coming days, the huge Malinao Irrigation Dam, located within the Wahig-Inabanga watershed area in this hinterland municipality, would be in critical condition of containing less water supply.
This condition alarmed farmers here. Reports reaching the FREEMAN bared that the farmers would be at the losing end of suffering in the next planting season due to the dam’s serious condition.
Regional director Modesto Membreve confirmed in news report that farmers will be at the disadvantage when the dam continues to recedes.
Reports said that the water level of the dam, which serves some 4,700 hectares, is already below normal as can be gleaned from the actual situation.
The dam showed cracks on its surrounding shores, leaving some portions without water, contrary to what it used to be that no land could be seen during normal condition or if filled with water.
Membreve, the report said, appeared to be downplaying the condition of other big dams ---- Bayongan Dam in San Miguel town and Capayas Dam in Ubay town. He was quoted as saying that these dams “are not severely affected the dry spell†But he admitted that the water level of these dams are diminishing.
Bayongan Dam, which is said to be bigger than Malinao Dam is serving some 4,100 hectares of rice paddies and Capayas Dam, about 1,100 hectares.
In a bid to arrest this scenario, Gov. Erico Aumentado and the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council he chairs passed recently a Resolution for cloud seeding in these areas for possible rain. (RVO) - Sunday Post
