History had it time and again that a woman would always play an important role in everyone’s life.
Admitting this, Gov. Edgar M. Chatto called on all the provincial government’s department heads and heads of national agencies for a unified consultation to fortify the province’s 2012 Gender and Development (GAD) Plan.
Chatto said that it is the policy of the Chatto-Lim Administration to promote women’s empowerment, gender equality, women’s rights and gender-responsive socio-economic development.
Gearing towards this goal, a seminar-workshop was held Wednesday to ensure that a thorough and workable plan can be built which could become the guiding principles whereby development goals are set.
Chatto directed that each sector’s proposed design must give emphasis to, and have a direct impact on, gender and development.
Tagbilaran City Councilor Mariquit Oppus facilitated the burning of eyebrows through the support of the Great Women Project (GWP).
During the workshop, participants were divided into eight clusters, namely: Health; Local Governance; Justice and Safety; Labor and Employment; Environment; Education, Culture and Arts and Media; Trade, Industry, Tourism and Agriculture; and the Special Sector.
They were also asked to assess their respective offices in terms of its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and targets. Each office or department then presented theirs issues and concerns which needed to be addressed underscoring gender-sensitive issues.
A Committee of Six was tasked to consolidate the proposals and consequently present the workshop’s results to Gov. Chatto and Vice-Mayor Concepcion Lim, the Provincial Government’s GAD Focal Person.
