The prices of fish in the province are relatively higher compared to other provinces.
This observation was confirmed by visitors who compared notes to prices of fish in the neighboring provinces of
Cebu and Negros Oriental.
Reports reaching the Chronicle bared that no less than 70% of the fish catch in Bohol seawaters are sold to Cebu buyers which leave meager supply of fish for the locals to buy from wet markets and supermarkets here.
The law of supply and demand now dictates the prices in the local market.
A check made at the City Fish Terminal at causeway drive likewise revealed that another reason for the prices of fish to go high is the presence of several middlemen.
From the fishermen, the products will pass through three layers before it will arrive at the markets.
In fact, this high selling price of fish at the local market is proven with the huge bulk of consumers who would take time early in the morning to buy at the fish terminal at the Causeway where the prices are lower.
Vendors interviewed at the fish terminal told the Chronicle that the case of "danggit," wherein fishermen price it at P60/kilo. This price at the fish port will almost double at P110 when sold at the local market since it will still have to pass through three layers of middlemen.
